Vasectomy:
A Vasectomy is commonly performed procedure that is an effective form a male contraception. This procedure involves dividing the vas Deferens: the tubes that carry sperm out of the testicles. This procedure has no negative effects on erectile function or testosterone levels. This is typically performed in the surgeon’s office with local anesthesia and takes about 30 minutes.
Immediately after the procedure, some sperm remain in the prostate and in the portion of the vas deferens above the procedure. It is important to check a semen analysis after the procedure to confirm absence of sperm. This is typically done around 6 weeks after the procedure, and before this time it is important to use an alternative method of contraception.
